A dangerous wildfire consumes hundreds of acres in California, AccuWeather gives first warnings to area businesses

Early warning makes a difference

In February 2022, a dangerous wildfire quickly developed in the hilly terrain near Laguna Beach in Orange County, CA. The Emerald Fire consumed more than 145 acres and threatened residents and businesses, causing officials to issue mandatory evacuations ahead of the typical California “wildfire season.” AccuWeather provided more advance notice than any other source using the AccuWeather For Business Wildfire Proximity Alerting System.  The same week, our meteorologists warned about the unusual February wildfire risk in California due to increasing warmth, gusty winds, low relative humidity, and the recent lack of rainfall.
