AccuWeather warns of dangerous flooding earlier and more accurately than anyone else

Summary

AccuWeather's expert meteorologists issued the only life-saving flash flooding warning allowing businesses in the San Francisco area to be better prepared.

Key Highlights

AccuWeather meteorologists began highlighting the threat of a major flooding event several days in advance.

On December 27, AccuWeather For Business alerted customers to flooding potential, accurately depicting the areas and periods where severe weather occurred.

Our competitors issued warnings 33 hours after AccuWeather For Business notified clients of impending, life-threatening flooding.

ACCUWEATHER ALERTS OF FLOODING SEVERAL DAYS IN ADVANCE

AccuWeather's world-renowned meteorologists once again issued the most advanced warning of historic amounts of rain on New Year's Eve in the San Francisco Bay Area and Central California. AccuWeather was the only source to provide the earliest and most accurate notifications allowing businesses to be better prepared and save lives.

  • On Saturday, December 24, ahead of our competitors and seven days ahead of flooding, AccuWeather For Business issued its first Storm Potential Outlook allowing customers to use the AccuWeather AssetReport™ to automatically identify specific company assets at risk from the flooding potential.
  • On Tuesday, December 27, before all other sources and four days ahead of flooding, AccuWeather for Business alerted customers to use the AccuWeather AssetReport™ to see specific rainfall ranges for the Central Coast and the Bay Area and identify company assets at risk.
  • On Friday, December 30, more than 11 hours ahead of the flooding, an AccuWeather Alert™ for Flash Flood Threat was sent to customers, highlighting that the most likely timeframe for flooding was between 4 AM to 4 PM Pacific.
  • On December 31, about 2 hours before the first report of flooding and the only imminent warning of flash flooding, AccuWeather For Business issued its Flash Flood Warning for San Francisco County, including the city of San Francisco.
  • Our competitors never issued flood warnings for San Francisco County and the City of San Francisco. As such, only AccuWeather users would have been anticipating the urgent, life-threatening flash flooding.

An atmospheric river of moisture brought heavy rain, producing flash flooding that resulted in flooded streets, businesses, and homes with feet of water inside of them, mudslides, and saturating the ground allowing large trees to topple onto cars.

AccuWeather once again provided customers with precious additional time to better prepare and seek safe shelter – critical when every second counts and lives are on the line.
