Tristan Irish is a Storm Warning Meteorologist at AccuWeather For Business' Operations Center in Wichita, KS. He helps to warn businesses during severe weather by issuing forecasts, warnings, and providing one-on-one consultations to clients.
Growing up in Kansas, Tristan was fascinated by severe weather, which inspired him to pursue a career in meteorology. He remembers sitting in his family's garage and watching the wind, rain, and lightning. Tristan visited Joplin, MO, a year after the devastating tornado hit the town. Seeing all the destruction made him want to understand more about what causes these storms and how to warn people about these life-changing events.
Tristan attended the University of Northern Colorado and learned about AccuWeather For Business from an alumna there. While attending school, he enjoyed the challenge of forecasting mountain weather in the Western U.S. He spent many days hiking in the mountains, so he needed to know how much snow would fall to determine if he could go snowshoeing or what time to expect a monsoon thunderstorm so he could return to his car in time. Forecasting his trips helped him learn more about what to look for to develop the best possible forecasts. After graduating, he moved to Wichita, KS, and was hired at AccuWeather For Business' Operations Center.
One of his most memorable weather events was the 2022 Andover tornado. He watched the entire event from development through dissipation. This experience reaffirmed his passion for meteorology and his desire to save lives by providing as much warning as possible for those in the path of these destructive storms.
Tristan also recalls the Nashville tornado in 2020, where he saw how the AccuWeather For Business team made a difference by providing clients with excellent lead time ahead of the destructive tornado. The AccuWeather For Business team worked through the night together to stay ahead of the storm while making sure other areas of the country were well covered since they were also experiencing severe weather.
Tristan enjoys the day-to-day operations at AccuWeather because the weather is rarely the same. He appreciates the collaborative atmosphere of the team, where everyone is willing to help and provide forecast insights to create the best forecasts possible for clients.
Outside work, Tristan loves spending time outdoors with his wife and their 1-year-old Australian Shepherd/Husky mix, whether going for walks, cycling, or playing golf. They also enjoy attending concerts and sporting events locally or in the region, traveling, and visiting new places.
AccuWeather's patented technology makes it simple and intuitive to analyze storms and provide timely client notifications.
