A dangerous wave of storms to bring heavy rain, life-threatening flooding, and mudslides to already saturated West Coast

The first in a series of storms will bring heavy rainfall to Northern California Friday into Saturday evening. The heavy rain will bring the risk of localized flooding and mudslides in the coastal ranges north of San Francisco and the northern Sierra Nevada.

A second storm will move into California late Sunday and stay until Tuesday. This extreme and potentially historic storm will bring up to 8 inches of rain to coastal ranges and the Sierra Nevada with an  AccuWeather Local StormMax^TM of 14 inches. Along with the rain, feet of snow are expected in elevations above 6,500 feet.

The already saturated ground and the upcoming heavy rain can result in surging water levels on streams and rivers. The rainfall will test the levee systems and dam spillway capabilities. There is the potential for significant, life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides.
