Winter blast for the Rockies as some areas prepare for more than a foot of snow

SIGNIFICANT SNOWSTORM

AccuWeather's 100+ expert meteorologists are monitoring a powerful winter storm system that will bring heavy snow from the Rockies through the Midwest this week. Businesses that use AccuWeather's Snow Warning Service will get alerts as the storm moves into their area.

The storm will develop Tuesday in the Rockies and dump heavy snow through the Southwest. This large area of accumulating snow can lead to travel issues across a significant section of the country, especially in Denver, where up to a foot of snow could fall.  There is an AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 40 inches. The storm will then push northeast through Thursday and make its way through the Midwest. More than 6 inches of snow could fall in portions of Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan. The snow and strong winds could make for treacherous travel conditions, from blowing snow to reduced visibility. There is an AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 18 inches.

Businesses in the path of this system should prepare for the following:

  • Retail: Shovel and salt walkways, dry high-traffic areas inside near entrances, and keep all floors clear to help prevent falls and reduce liability
  • Ground logistics disruptions from snow-covered roads
  • Prioritize cold weather concerns for outdoor workers
