Major contractor uses AccuWeather’s 1:1 meteorologist consultations to keep employees safe

Capform, Inc., a concrete contractor, knows about changing weather conditions and the importance of staying ahead of them firsthand. As an AccuWeather For Business client, they have more than 1,800 hourly employees and construction sites nationwide. So, site supervisors need to know where and when, with pinpoint accuracy, severe weather will create dangerous conditions for their worksites.

“Our biggest concern is lightning. Our second is wind. AccuWeather has proven to be very accurate and quick to issue warnings based on our criteria,”  said Dave Maher, Capform Corporate Safety Director. “Also, the ability to contact a meteorologist monitoring our job sites to get additional information on the notifications or just to call up and ask a question on the day's weather 24/7 is a great help.”

In February 2020, Capform was at a job site for American Airlines in Dallas, TX. AccuWeather alerted the job site that winds were going to increase at or above their warning level in two hours. “Our crews were able to complete their work and secure any loose material prior to the winds increasing,” Maher said. “It was our first success story.”

Maher says they didn’t consider other options after finding AccuWeather For Business. As an AccuWeather SkyGuard® Warnings customer, Capform receives site-specific alerts and warnings well before severe weather hits, giving them much-needed time to prepare. “It has made it much easier and safer to stop work activities on our job sites with AccuWeather’s SkyGuard,” Maher said.

Maher also finds it beneficial to have an inclement weather plan that can be used and enforced nationwide to keep their employees safe. He also says that contacting the meteorologist 24/7 monitoring Capform’s job sites across the country is invaluable.
