Tyler Knowlton - Host
Director of Communications Communities and Partnerships, Plume Labs by AccuWeather
Tyler Knowlton joined the Plume Labs team in 2017 to lead the company’s strategic communications and community engagement efforts. He has over 15 years of experience in public relations, communications, and policy development. Since launching AccuWeather's Climate Impact Program last year he has been connecting journalists, academics, and community groups with the data they need to protect the planet from two of its greatest threats: climate action failure and extreme weather.
Paul Pastelok
Lead U.S. Long-Range Forecaster - AccuWeather
Paul Pastelok has been with AccuWeather for over 30 years. He has worked extensively with a variety of clients in radio and television broadcasting, newspapers, international forecasting, utility and construction companies, and now has a weekly long-range podcast.
Paul leads a team that focuses mainly on energy and retail clients and makes forecasts ranging from short-term to as far out as 12 months. The department has expanded globally and has developed long-range forecasts for Europe, Canada, South America and Asia. Paul also has experience in commodity, transportation, tropical and global drought forecasting.
Lou Seidel - AccuWeather Snow Warning Service Expert
Director, Business Development
Lou has been with AccuWeather since July of 1995, he manages the General Service Pod, the division which provides custom weather service warnings, forecasts, and briefings to entertainment and venue management companies, professional sports companies, municipalities, and government agencies. Lou was previously employed by State Street Research, as a Registered Representative while attaining designations and accreditation licenses from the NASD via the American College.
Over the years Lou has directed various product enhancements and marketing outreach efforts. In his time with AccuWeather, he has represented the company on panel discussions, and at trade shows and conventions.
His current responsibilities include the management and development of team members while growing the AccuWeather footprint globally.
Vance Varner - Panelist
Superintendent - Mifflin County School District
Vance S. Varner began his educational career in the Upper Dauphin Area School District in August 1991 where he served as a high school science teacher, head soccer coach, and assistant wrestling coach. During his first year of teaching, he won the National Sallie Mae First Year Teacher of the Year. He was the only first year teacher in Pennsylvania to win the award in the Spring of 1992.
Mr. Varner began working in the Mifflin County School District in August 1995 as a science teacher at Indian Valley High School and then at Lewistown Middle School. Starting July 1, 2000, Mr. Varner became the Assistant Principal at Lewistown Area High School. On July 1, 2003, he was promoted to serve as the Principal at Lewistown Area High School until June 2009. On July 1, 2009, Mr. Varner advanced to Central Office as the Director of Secondary Education serving in this capacity until July 1, 2020, when he became the Chief Operations Officer for the Mifflin County School District.
On June 24, 2021, the School Board of Directors approved Mr. Varner as the superintendent of the Mifflin County School District effective September 11, 2021. For the school year 2024-25, Mr. Varner is entering his 27th year as a school administrator including 16 years of experience as a central office administrator in the Mifflin County School District.
For more than five years, Mr. Varner was an adjunct professor at Wilkes University. He taught courses in the Educational Leadership Program such as educational leadership, supervision, and the administrative internship as well as courses in educational assessment and curriculum and instruction. Mr. Varner received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Science Education from Pennsylvania State University in May 1991. He continued his education at Penn State receiving a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration in May 1997, completing his Elementary Principal Certificate in August 2000, and completing his Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility in May 2004.
Earlier in his professional career, Mr. Varner was a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was stationed in Newark, New Jersey. While he was a Special Agent, Mr. Varner received a letter of commendation from then FBI Director Louis J. Freeh for professional competence, initiative, and commitment to duty. Mr. Varner has applied these same qualities and work ethic to the Mifflin County School District.
In his spare time, Mr. Varner enjoys spending time with his two daughters, gardening, and fly fishing.
