Businesses brace for significant flooding
AccuWeather For Business meteorologists are keeping a close eye on a system that is bringing extended periods of rain across Texas. The rain will lead to life-threatening flash flooding, swollen rivers, and washed-out roads. Businesses across Texas should prepare for significant business disruptions through the weekend.
Up to 12 inches of rain will fall across portions of south-central Texas, with an AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 20 inches. Businesses will see the heaviest rainfall between San Antonio and the Hill Country west of San Antonio. This region's rough and rocky terrain could worsen flooding because water can rapidly flow into smaller streams and typically dry ravines. Other areas of Texas could see up to 2 inches or more.
Along with the flooding, the storms also pose a severe weather risk. On Friday, large hail is expected along with damaging wind gusts which can reach speeds up to 70 mph, with an AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 85 mph. Expect the same conditions on Saturday with hail and wind gusts up to 65 mph and the risk for an isolated tornado.
Businesses in these areas should prepare for the following:
