NOR’EASTER IMPACTS

This Nor’easter will be the second major storm in a week to slam the same area. Some communities in the path of the system are still dealing with the impacts of the previous winter storm.  This will be heavy wet snow, combined with gusty winds. Nor’easters can devastate businesses mainly because heavy snow can last several days and cause power outages and road closures.  Other areas can see coastal flooding.

Businesses in the path of this storm should:

  • Expect ground logistics disruption due to road closures, downed trees, and power outages
  • Prioritize cold weather concerns for outdoor workers
  • Check large-span roofs and buildings that could sustain damage from heavy snow
  • Be prepared for lengthy closures Retail: Shovel and salt walkways, dry high-traffic areas inside near your entrance, put up “Wet Floor” signs, and keep all floors clear to help prevent falls and reduce liability
  • Establish an emergency communication plan: share employee, client, and vendor contact information before the storm and disseminate the plan to critical staff
