Downpours to bring much-needed rain, flash flooding risk to parts of the West

FLASH FLOODING FEARS

AccuWeather meteorologists are monitoring a surge of moisture left over from former Hurricane Kay that will cause heavy downpours and flash flooding across the West through Thursday.

Daily afternoon thunderstorms will develop from Arizona and New Mexico north to the Rockies. Also, higher elevations of Southern California are at risk of potential-heavy downpours. Even though these areas need rain, heavy rainfall can cause significant flash flooding. Stray lightning strikes could also spark wildfires, and there is a risk of a dust storm in the Southwest.

Businesses in these regions should keep a close eye on this system and should:

  • Ensure all employees and visitors on-site have a way to be notified of severe weather
  • Prepare for ground logistics disruption due to road closures, flooded roads, and power outages
  • Loss of Inventory due to flooding - if your warehouse is in a low-lying area, precautions should be taken
