# Forensic Meteorology

## The investigation of historical weather events that result in a court case requires granular knowledge of the weather conditions where the incident occurred. Forensic meteorologists can be retained to pinpoint and retrieve data for any location, then provide their expert opinion regarding the event.

## Case studies

#### Case 1: Roof Collapse

A construction company was sued when the roof of a building that they built collapsed. The construction company was found not liable when we provided information that showed that the weight of the snow and ice on the portion of the roof that collapsed was 50 pounds per square foot, nearly double the load local building codes required the roof to withstand.

#### Case 2: Homicide

A man was charged with murdering his wife, but he said an intruder committed the murder. We determined that the grass in that neighborhood would have been very wet from dew at the time of the murder. Using that information, the prosecutor was able to disprove the intruder theory.

#### Case 3: Customized Weather-Based Business Analysis

An insurance carrier was sued by a property management company for breach of contract related to a loss experienced by a hail storm. We were able to show other hail reports were unreliable in forming their conclusions over the storm. Our site-specific report determined no hail on the date of loss and showed numerous other hail storms prior to the carrier's policy period.
