A powerful storm from the Pacific is forecast to roll ashore in the Northwest on Friday.
The storm is expected to bring enough rain to lead to flooding and mudslides along the coasts of Washington, Oregon, and perhaps the northern part of California. Several inches of rain may fall, especially from the coast to the western slopes of the Cascades. Burn scar areas may be at greatest risk for significant flash flooding and mudslides.
Heavy snow is expected over the Cascades and farther inland over higher terrain to the northern Rockies into this weekend. The higher elevations of the Cascades and northern Rockies may have blizzard conditions with the potential for over two feet of snow. Closures should be anticipated for some of the major passes in these regions.
Strong winds of 40-60 mph will affect a broad area but may reach hurricane force (74 mph) along the immediate Oregon and southern Washington coasts. AccuWeather Local StormMax™ wind gusts near 80 mph are forecast for part of the Columbia River Valley and along the eastern slopes of the Rockies in southern Wyoming and northern Colorado. This storm has the potential to cause widespread power outages and some tree damage.
Expect ground logistics disruption due to road closures, downed trees, and power outages in the highlighted regions.
