Powerful Nor’easter targets New England this weekend

Powerful snowstorm set to strike

AccuWeather For Business meteorologists expect a strong Nor’easter to develop late Friday and bring dangerous winter conditions to major cities along the East Coast this weekend. The potential storm could become a “bomb cyclone,” as it strengthens quickly off the coast and brings with it destructive winds and dangerous surf that could threaten coastal communities. The storm is expected to impact areas up and down the Northeast and mid-Atlantic coasts, including the Interstate-95 corridor from Washington, D.C., to Portland, Maine. Big cities like New York City, Boston, and Portland, Maine, are all in the path of the storm and forecast to get significant snowfall. 

Blizzard conditions are expected near the New England coast, including Boston, Portland, and Bangor, Maine, where wind gusts will be the highest on Saturday. Reduced visibility, downed trees, and power outages are expected. The powerful winds can also lead to coastal flooding and beach erosion across much of New England and the northern shore of Long Island. Over a foot of heavy snow is expected in much of New England with the most snowfall, an AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 42 inches, from eastern Long Island through Nova Scotia. Cold air will dip southward as the Nor'easter begins to pull away. Subfreezing temperatures will be felt as far south as Florida.
