As much of the East digs out of the heavy snowfall from last weekend, more winter weather is brewing. A low-pressure system will develop Friday into Saturday, bringing with it the potential for up to a foot of snow from the southern Appalachians through the Mid-Atlantic. The heaviest snowfall is forecast for northeastern North Carolina to portions of the Delmarva Peninsula. The storm's snow and ice are expected to disrupt travel and business logistics along the busy I-95 corridor south of Washington, D.C., from southern Virginia through North Carolina. Portions of I-85 and I-40 could also see some trouble across much of Virginia and North Carolina. Our meteorologists are forecasting an AccuWeather Local StormMax of 12 inches of snow with this storm for Friday through Saturday.
Ice will be a threat for parts of the South as cold air sits over the region. Dangerous icy conditions could develop from east Georgia to the I-95 corridor in the Carolinas, posing a serious threat for power outages, travel disruptions, and dangerous roadways. Some ice and sleet can also occur in a narrow band early in the day on Friday from southeastern Texas to Louisiana, as rain tries to break out.
