Major Storm to Produce Blizzard Conditions from California to Northern Plains

STRONG SNOWSTORM THREAT

AccuWeather's expert meteorologists, using AccuWeather's Superior Accuracy, correctly predicted heavy snowfall in Oregon and Washington over the past few days and are now tracking a significant snowstorm that will impact businesses from California to the northern Plains this week. Heavy snowfall is expected in the northern Sierra Nevada, with conditions rapidly deteriorating in Donner Pass; the area will see several feet of snow nearly reaching AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 65 inches in the highest elevations. These snow amounts will cause significant travel disruptions; in some areas, travel may be impossible.

Rain will be the more significant issue as flooding rain will continue to fall in the foothills of the Sierra. Rain will stretch as far south as Southern California through Wednesday, where it is needed due to the drought. Rainfall in the area will reach AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 8 inches. 

The wind will also become a significant concern as the storm moves eastward across the Rockies. Some interstates could have travel disruptions due to the strong winds. High-profile vehicles should use extra caution when driving in these conditions.

The storm will move to the northern Plains Wednesday evening, where areas from Northeastern Wyoming to the Dakotas could see up to 18 inches of snow.
